How it Works:

  • Your roller grinder is set up with a differential drive, where one roll spins faster than the other. This is advantageous when you are grinding to finer particles, but not when you want to crack corn. Ideally, for cracked corn without all the fines, you want the rolls to rotate at the same speed.
  • By installing the variable speed roll controller, it allows the operator to choose between having a differential or not with just a flip of a switch! When the operator selects the crack mode, the speed controller slows the faster moving roll down to match the speed of the slower roll. Many of our customers have tested their cracked corn before and after installing these units and have measured a 50% decrease in the amount of fines.
  • The programmed variable frequency drive is typically mounted in the electrical room and takes the place of the starter that powers the motor that rotates the top fast roll. The two positions switch should be mounted somewhere that is convenient for the operator to use; such as the control room, by the roll adjustment controls or by the roller mill’s ammeters.
